Industrija konoplje v Sloveniji in na Balkanu je bila v 40. in 50. letih zelo močna. Na naših tleh je bilo takrat veliko obratov za pridelavo konoplje. Nekdanja Jugoslavija je bila tretja največja proizvajalka in izvoznica konoplje na svetu. Nato so po drugi svetovni vojni začeli zapirati obrate za pridelavo konoplje. Zadnji stoječi in delujoči obrat za proizvodnjo konoplje v nekdanji Jugoslaviji je bil v Grosuplju v Sloveniji. Po neuspešnem zagonu leta 2014 je leta 2017 mala proizvodnja v Kapli prešla v naše roke. Ves svoj čas in sredstva pa smo začeli vlagati v obrat, ko smo poželi našo prvo industrijsko konopljo na majhni zasebni butični kmetiji v Mali Nedelji v Prekmurju! Naš interes so bile predvsem CBD rastline za izvlečke. Ko smo pobirali prvi pridelek, smo opazili, da za seboj puščamo ogromno »neuporabnih« delov rastline. Pravzaprav smo dve tretjini konoplje pustili na njivi! Ko smo opravili nekaj raziskav, smo v kmetijskih odpadkih konoplje videli izjemno priložnost! Opazili smo, da kot odpadke puščamo najmočnejša in najbolj trpežna naravna vlakna. Od tega trenutka smo se začeli osredotočati na raziskave in razvoj več naravnih kompozitov iz konoplje. Razvijali smo izdelke in materiale za gradbeništvo, plastično in papirno industrijo, nekateri pa še v nastajanju. Podjetje Mediterri doo je bilo ustanovljeno leta 2017 in je razvilo ključna strateška partnerstva z zasebnimi in vladnimi organizacijami ter močan svetovalni odbor. Kaj delamo PROIZVODNI OBRAT MEDITERRI Proizvodni obrat v Kapli v Savinjski dolini je polindustrijski obrat za proizvodnjo in predelavo naravnih konopljinih vlaken brez kemičnih topil. Kmetijski odpadki se pretvorijo v cenovno dostopne, trajnostne in okolju prijazne biokompozite. MEDITERRIJEV NAČRT Na območju Balkana je bilo zavrženih okoli 10.000 ton konopljinih stebel. Mediterri bi lahko 10 tisoč ton zavržene biomase pretvoril v 10 milijonov evrov. V dveh letih namerava Mediterri zgraditi prvi industrijski obrat za proizvodnjo in predelavo konopljinih vlaken v Sloveniji in v Balkanski regiji.
